Additional information

The American Guild of Variety Artists (AGVA - founded in 1939) is an American entertainment union representing performers in variety entertainment, including circuses, Las Vegas showrooms and cabarets, comedy showcases, dance revues, magic shows, theme park shows, and arena and auditorium extravaganzas. Its offices are in New York and Los Angeles and it awards the Georgie Award (after George M. Cohan, an American entertainer, playwright, composer, lyricist, actor, singer, dancer and producer) for variety performer of the year.

ABBA received the Georgie Award from the American Guild of Variety Artists as The Best Vocal Group of the Year 1980.

ABBA were interviewed live by satellite following their award. The show-host was Tony Orlando (who sang Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree with the group Dawn).  A clip of On and On and On from Show Express was shown.

The award was actually collected by Stig Anderson and John Spalding who were in New York at the time.

A weather report about a forthcoming approaching storm across the bottom of the broadcast screen indicated the storm would be there, "tonight and Monday" which indicates the broadcast took place on a Sunday.
