ABBA arrived at Sydney Airport at 21:15 where the media onslaught began before retiring for the night at their hotel, the Sebel Town House.
1,000 fans turned up to greet them, but could not see them. They stood outside a Customs Hall door, only metres from ABBA, but were unable to see the group. As shown in ABBA - The Movie, the announcement was made over the tannoy, "ABBA wishes to thank their supporters for coming and are sorry they cannot see you."
ABBA spent about one minute in the customs area posing for press and television photographers. TV channels ABC and Nine Network filmed footage, both of which is different to that used in ABBA - The Movie, as that was filmed onto other format and system (ie. 2.35 : 1 ratio with Panavision cameras) but it is interesting to see the same event from different angles.
Perhaps this is the Channel 9 camerman in ABBA - The Movie footage on the right-hand side of the image?
Snippets of both channel's footage were used in the ABC TV special Bang-a-Boomerang in 2013.
