| Transcript | About the music that inspired ABBA: "We
would listen to everything around us, all the competition as it were - the
Bee Gees, Queen, all of those people. It was inspiring to listen to them to
see what their latest record would be." About Fernando: "Fernando is a Mexican freedom fighter from the uprising of Zapata who - you don't know who Zapata is but he was a freedom fighter in Mexico - and Fernando is about two of those veterans sitting on the porch one evening remembering the times when they were fighting for Zapata. Not many people know this but that's what Fernando's all about." About the girls: "We had the perfect vehicle - these two wonderful girls would could looked so good and can sing so well - and who you could marry even!" About their popularity in Australia: "I have to say that I am deeply grateful to Australia for bringing ABBA back after the Eurovision Song Contest because in 1974 we had a hit with Waterloo as you know and we won the Eurovision Song Contest but then after that virtually everyone decided that we were a one-hit wonder because that was the way it was usually. Every act that won had one big hit and then - forgotten. We had a hard time getting back after Waterloo and the first ones to pick up on us were I think were the Australians in 75 I think it was. One day released SOS, Mamma Mia and then the English and other people ... "They're having big hits in Australia ... what is this, we have to do something about it" and that's when we came back in a big way" About Björn Again: "I like that name, yeah! I use that frequently when I call someone back and say it's Bjorn again. well it's very good! About the costumes: "Some of the outfits that I wore particularly on me are absolutely, incredibly, totally without taste." Owe Sandstrom (about Björn): "He was very very well-built and constantly training and wanted to show off his ..." Fuzzy [Host]: - "His bod(y)" Owe: - "Yes, definitely!" Björn [after hearing Owes comments presumably on a TV screen somewhere]: "Thank you Owe that's very, very nice of you to say so!" On Madonna's "Hung Up": "I love Madonna and she wrote this very nice letter asking could she please do this [sample "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)" on "Hung Up"]. And we said "Oh, we must listen to it," and so she sent someone over from New York to Stockholm and we listen to it and we fell completely, I mean I fell after 20 seconds or something of the song." On choosing a video clip to be shown: "As this is an Australian program, I want to pick something that was very very important for us down there in Australia back in the 70's. I think it was the one, the most famous one and the one that really took us back and it was played on a program called Countdown over and over again. And it was directed by Lasse Hallström, who then did "My Life As A Dog" and lots of films, and it is his version of "Mamma Mia" " (PROMO then shown)." |
