Björn accepted the award for "Best Musical", the first award received by
"Mamma Mia! The Movie" from Nicole Kidman. The host was actor James Nesbitt.
He gave a moving acceptance speech on stage with Judy Craymer, Phyllida
Lloyd and Catherine Johnson.
Björn was seen several times throughout the 2 hour broadcast reacting to comments from the host or applauding guest presenters, etc. It seems he and Meryl Streep were the only two superstars to turn up for the event apart from the guest presenters.
Meryl Streep won the award for Best Female Performer.
It all began in a town on the south coast of England with the Eurovision Song Contest in Brighton, 1974. And here I am now because the songs that Benny Andersson and I wrote have mysteriously, miraculously and marvellously survived to this day.
I really want to take this opportunity to thank you people out there, who generation after generation have carried these songs forward and kept them alive - and also, of course, I want to thank all the movie-goers for taking the trouble to vote, and to vote for "Mamma Mia!"
