The Tommy Cooper Hour

Filmed 13-14 August 1974
Location Teddington Studios, Middlesex, England (south-west of London)
Broadcast 27 November 1974 at 8pm, Thames TV (ITV), UK (and repeated 11 August 1976)
Released This clip has (finally!) been released in full on DVD of The Tommy Cooper Hour
Notes "Ring Ring" was performed - the 1974 single remix with a re-recorded backing and LIVE vocals.  They also appeared standing before the cameras just before the clip.

We first saw this clip (apart from when it was originally shown of course) on the 1993 programme "A for ABBA" and it has popped up on documentaries ever since.  It has taken several years to get The Tommy Cooper Hour released officially but it has finally happened.

Other guests on this edition of the show were puppet Topo Gigio and ventriloquist Ray Alan and Lord Charles (real childhood memories for me!).

Tommy Cooper was a very famous and very funny UK magician who was famous for bungling his magic tricks. He was famous for wearing a fez and died live on TV in front of millions of viewers during his act on a variety show in 1984 at Her Majesty's Theatre in London. Everyone thought his collapsing in front of the curtains was part of the act.  It wasn't.

Duration about 3 minutes (whole programme lasted 60 minutes)
