| Notes | ABBA collect the Golden Lion ("Der
Goldene Löwe") of Radio Luxembourg 1974 Award and
performed live in the
"Ring Ring" costumes (you can see the R of the RT in the background of
this picture at the 13 second point in the clip below). It is not
clear what they performed (most probably "Waterloo") or whether the full show was ever broadcast on TV
- only the award acceptance below. Bandleader James Last also collected an award that day. The Golden Lion weighed 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs) including the base and was 26 cm high so it was quite big and heavy. It was originally designed and cast by the Luxembourg painter/sculptor Auguste Tremon in 1958 Originally, the Golden Lions were presented to the most successful stars of the von Radio Luxemburg Hit Parade, based on sales figures and ranking and frequency of appearance in the Hit Parade. Past winners of Golden Lions and Honorary Lions were, in addition to ABBA and James Last: Peter Alexander, Lale Andersen, The Bee Gees, Roy Black, Rudi Carrell, Drafi Deutscher, Fats Domino, Fischer Chöre, Connie Francis, Hans Dietrich Genscher, Rex Gildo, David Hasselhoff, Heino,Gitte Henning, Ernst Huberty, Michael Jackson, Curd Jürgens, Udo Jürgens, Peter Kraus, Vicki Leandros, Peter Maffay, Nana Mouskouri, Eros Ramazotti,Chris Rea, Walter Scheel, Caterina Valente, Otto Waalkes and others. |
